'Finally an Ass Whipping!'
On December 6, 2008, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Manny Pacquiao ended Oscar de la Hoya's dream; a dream that he, De la Hoya, would end his career with a bang. The Filipino, Pacquio (48-3-2, 35 KOs) stopped the Mexican-American De La Hoya (39-6, 30 KOs) in the ninth round. Pacquiao gained his biggest win to date, when De la Hoya failed to answer the bell for the ninth round.

'Jones Out Classed!'
November 8, 2008, at the Madison Square Garden in New York City, Roy Jones Jr was battered by Joe Calzaghe. The undefeated Calzaghe (46-0, 32 KOs) won in a one-sided unanimous decision. In the first round, 39-year-old Jones (52-5, 38) knocked the 36-year-old Welshman down; nevertheless, Calzaghe went on to open a cut over Jones’ left eye midway through the fight, leaving him bloodied.

I Told You So
My Nominated Fight of the Year, 2008!
Antonio Margarito settled many scores; however, it was
Miguel Cotto that paid the price.
For many years, many boxers (such as Mayweather and Mosley) refused to face Margarito; however, he got his chance to display his talent at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday July 26, 2008. Although, Cotto had the speed advantage, and he dominated the first half of the fight, by throwing sharp and quick punches, he was unable to hurt his opponent. Margarita kept coming forward no matter how much he was hit; eventually, in round 11; it was over.
In round 10, Cotto was battered, bruised and bleeding from the nose and mouth. The end came in the 11th roumd, Margarito caught Cotto with a beautiful combo forcing him to his knees. Nevertheless, the determined Cotto got back up more relentless, but the pressure from Margarito put him to his knees again. Cotto, still got up, but his corner came up on the ring apron and waved a white flag.
At the end of the bout, two of the judges' scorecard read 96-94, in favor of Margarito, and one judge had it even 95-95. Cotto landed 179 punches from a total of 655 thrown, while Margarito landed 237 out of 987 thrown.
According to Max Kellerman, 'many of men fell on their knees in front of Cotto (i.e. Zab Juda & others,) but this was the first time Cotto was taken to a place, where he never went before (on his knees.) Cotto certainly needed a little time out, to bring himself back from that place that he had never visited before.
Oscar De La Hoya is looking for a fight before he retirees. I and other boxing fans hope that he is given the opportunity he deserves, to fight Margarito, for a large purse. This probably would not happen, due to how Margarito leaves his opponents faces, all battered, bruised and bloody. We doubt whether the Golden Boy would agree to this; he may look to fight someone smaller, like Pacquiao.
Clottey Wins!
Judah Tried to Con His Way into a Win!
Joshua Clottey (35-2, 21 KOs) won the vacant IBF welterweight title, over Zab Judah (36-6, 25 KOs), by a unanimous technical decision in the ninth round, at the Palms in Las Vegas.
Although Judah tried to con his way into the win, by claiming that he could not see, due to a cut over his right eye, all three judges, (Duane Ford 87-84, George Hill 86-85 and Glenn Trowbridge 86-85), scored the fight for Clottey. An upper cut opened up a cut over Juda’s right eye; however, the referee thought it was due to an accidental head butt.
The truth is that Judah couldn't take it; Clottey took control of the fight in the later rounds, after Juda faded. Referee Robert Byrd stopped the action, so that the ringside physician, Dr. James Game, could take a look at Judah's eye. Game did not see the eye as a reason to stop the fight; however, he had to make that decision because Judah said he couldn't see. When asked by the commentator if he believed Juda, Game stated that he had to because Judah said that he could not see and based on the visual check given to Juda, he failed.
Nevertheless, many of us know that Judah was lying, he was looking for a way out, Clottey had begun to put the pressure on him and he knew that he could not take it. There was not much speculation on whether or not Clottey will fight Antonio Margarito to unify their titles, but Clottey desire is to fight Andre Berto.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
Breaking News: Super Bantamweight Division
A star is born:
Record: 22 wins, 20kos
A new Puerto Rican superstar is born - Juan Manuel Lopez- No, it's not Miguel Cotto.
After Felix Trinidad, Puerto Rico was looking for their next hero and they got it, it's Juan Manuel Lopez. Lopez , unlike Cotto: has the charisma, he has the skill, he has the power, he is the total package. I don't want to be presumptuous, but I think that he is the next big star.
According to critics, Cotto does not connect with the crowd; his personality does not have the overwhelming effect on the audience, as Trinidad's had.
GUESS WHAT? The new star, Juan Manuel Lopez, has that great crowd appeal.
Lopez was a 2004 Olympian; he was the number one ranked contender to the WBO Super Bantam Weight Championship of the World. This weekend, he proved himself, he outwitted the title holder, Daniel Ponce De Leon, to gain his title.
De Leon, this former super bantamweight champion, at 5'5", was the biggest and strongest, in his division. He looked like a light weight.
On Saturday June 7th, Juan Manuel Lopez knocked out Daniel Ponce De Leon in the first round of their scheduled 12 round title fight. Approximately, 2 minutes into the first round, Lopez knocked De Leon down. Lopez the sharper boxer stepped between De Leon's wide punches and landed with a quick right hook. However, after knocking De Leon down, Lopez never lost his composure, he did not get excited, but continued to attack De leon, who went down to the count at 2.25 minutes of the first round.
Both Lopez and De Leon are south paw fighters. De Leon is know for throwing lots of punches and a hard hitter, but Lopez, who also hits hard is the total package and more technically sound of the two.

Sweet Redemption: Williams regains his WBO Title
Tall Paul Williams regained his WBO welterweight title belt, by stopping Carlos Quintana in their first round of their rematch title fight. Four months ago, in their first fight, Quintana out slicked Williams, to create a huge upset, and gain the WBO welterweight title (unanimous decision.)
Williams came back, on Saturday June 7th, to get revenge for his only lost. He stopped Quintana in the first round of their rematch. Quintana now has two losses, his first to Miguel Cotto, he got knocked out in the 6th round.

Another Upset this Weekend
Sergio 'The Latin Snake' Mora the winner of THE CONTENDER season 1, upset Vernon Forrest this weekend, to win the WBC Junior Middle Weight Title.
Mora out hustled the aging Forrest to eke out a close majority decision. It is my opinion that Forrest age caused him to fade down the stretch. After winning the first three rounds, Mora became more aggressive and Forrest faded.
Mora, 27 years old, record is now 21-0-1-9, and Forrest 37 years old, record is 40-3-29.
Kelly Pavlik stopped Gary Lockett of England.
A third-round TKO ended Gary Lockett's challenge for the middleweight world title; his corner threw in the towel, after Lockett dropped to his knee three times.
The 31 year old Lockett, was the No. 1 mandatory fighter for Pavlik. His record is 30-2 21 KOs.
Pavlik, 26 years old, record is 34-0, 30 KOs.
